Lake Apopka North Shore

Lake Apopka, Florida’s fourth largest lake, is fed by a natural spring. A former muck farm, the area is a treasure trove of wildlife including bobcats and eagles. 

The Loop Trail is 20 miles long and encircles the lake’s edges. There are observation towers, hiking, biking and horseback trails. 

There is also a Wildlife Drive that is 11 miles long. It can take as much as 1-3 hours to drive depending on how many times you stop to take epic photographs. 

Additionally, along the trails are restrooms, but no drinking water. Be sure to bring a high quality water bottle, like Hydroflask.

The Next Florida Photography Spot is…

Brevard Zoo in Melbourne, FL

About 45 minutes east of Orlando, the Brevard Zoo is compact at 45 acres. However, this high-quality zoo is set up with open air viewing and elevated platforms. This provides unimpeded sight lines to your favorite animals in their natural settings.

This Zoo also offers many “Behind the Scenes” educational opportunities that are one of a kind. Be sure to call and reserve your spot for any tours.

Let us also note that the zoo was entirely built by a volunteer force of 16,000 locals in 1994. It is considered “The World’s Largest Community Build”.

The Little Big Econ State Forest

One of the most popular destinations in the Orlando area for nature. With over 10,000 acres of protected forest along the Econlackhatchee River. Also know as the Econ to locals, it’s meaning is “River of Many Mounds”. This park has many extensive trails dedicated to specific uses. 

Additionally, natural communities of floodplain, wet prairie, pine flatwoods, sandhill and scrub can all be explored with your camera. 

Animal sightings can include alligator, spoonbills, storks, and tortoises.
